Dongo Privacy Policy

Version 2.1 — Last updated: 26 July 2026

Dongo ("Dongo", "we", "us") is a rewards and local-business promotion platform operated in the Republic of Uganda. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. It applies to the Dongo mobile app, our public campaign pages (dongo.app/c/…), our website, and our business dashboard.

We process personal data in accordance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 (Uganda) and its Regulations. For the purposes of that Act, Dongo is the data controller for the data described below. Contact: support@dongo.app.

1. Data we collect, and why

Approximate location derived from your IP address (city/region level, never GPS)Only for tasks marked "requires location". We ask once, the first time this is relevant to your account, rather than on every such task — your choice is then remembered until you change it. Used to show advertisers where their audience is, in aggregate. You can turn this on or off any time in Profile → Location Sharing (consent).
Transaction and withdrawal historyOperating your wallet and meeting bookkeeping obligations (contract; legal obligation).
Push-notification tokenSending you notifications you have enabled; you can turn categories off in Settings (consent).
Usage events (e.g. "task completed", "withdrawal requested")Understanding where the app loses people and improving it. Held by us, not a third-party analytics company (legitimate interest).
On public campaign pages: a first-party "device" cookie (1 year) and a hashed record of your IP and browserPreventing the same device from claiming a reward twice (legitimate interest). See "Cookies" below.
For business accounts: business name, contact email, phone, location, campaign content, billing top-upsOperating the advertiser dashboard and billing (contract).

2. How we use your data

We use your data to operate your account, serve tasks, credit rewards, pay withdrawals to your registered mobile-money number, prevent fraud and duplicate accounts, comply with law (including tax and anti-money-laundering obligations), and show aggregate, non-identifying statistics to advertisers — for example "1,200 people in Wakiso viewed this campaign", never "this named person viewed it".

3. When we share data

We never sell your personal data. We never share your phone number with an advertiser without your explicit, per-business opt-in, and we never post anything on your behalf.

4. International transfers

Some partners above (Google, Cloudflare, offer networks) store data on servers outside Uganda. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards in the Data Protection and Privacy Act, including the partner being subject to comparable data-protection obligations.

5. Cookies

The mobile app does not use cookies. Our public campaign pages set (a) a session cookie required for the page to function and (b) a first-party "dongo_device" cookie lasting 1 year, used solely to prevent duplicate reward claims from the same device. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies on our web pages.

6. How long we keep data

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete account in the app, or by emailing support@dongo.app. Deletion immediately and permanently removes your name, phone number, location, and mobile-money details from your account record. Financial records are kept in anonymized form as described above. Any balance must be withdrawn before deletion; balances remaining at deletion are forfeited (after deletion we can no longer identify you to pay you), and the app will ask you to finish a pending withdrawal before it lets you delete.

Please note: to prevent abuse of sign-up and referral rewards, the phone number of a deleted account is recorded and cannot be used to register a new Dongo account. If you believe this affects you unfairly (for example, you received a recycled phone number), contact support and we will review it.

8. Your rights

Under the Data Protection and Privacy Act you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent (e.g. location — Profile → Location Sharing — lead sharing, notifications), and to request erasure as described above. To exercise any of these, email support@dongo.app; we respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with Uganda's Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO) at pdpo.go.ug.

9. Security

All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Access to personal data is restricted to authorized personnel. Withdrawals are only ever sent to your registered mobile-money number, and changes to that number are held for 48 hours to protect you if your account is compromised. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data we will notify the PDPO and affected users as the Act requires.

10. Children

Dongo is strictly for persons aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using Dongo, contact us and we will close the account.

11. Earnings disclaimer

Rewards on Dongo are small incentives for engaging with content. Dongo is not employment, and earnings are not a salary or guaranteed income.

12. Changes to this policy

We will notify you of material changes in the app or by SMS before they take effect, and update the version and date at the top of this page. Earlier versions are available on request.
